Looking for family friendly, outdoorsy fun this weekend? Been wanting to try a standup paddle board, new trail shoes, learn fly fishing, or brush up on some wilderness survival skills? Or just hit some sweet urban singletrack with free shuttled runs and more than 1,000ft of vertical drop? And do it all within downtown Roanoke, VA?
We’re headed to the GO Fest to do just that, and thought we’d pass along the tip. Not only can you check out demo equipment and get lessons from major brands in all categories of outdoor sports, but it’s one of the greenest festivals we’ve seen. Want a beer? Great, just use the supplied pint glass all weekend long…there’s no plastic or disposable cups available. Prefer water? Bring your own bottle and refill it at stations all over the venue.
Located on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains and near the famed Blue Ridge Parkway, Roanoke is using the GO Fest (for Go Outside Festival) to promote its city as a home base for outdoor and adventure enthusiasts. Personally, we’re fans of the nearby Carvins Cove trail network for more aggressive riding, but with 10+ miles of singletrack right in the heart of downtown, we’re eager to check out what else the city has to offer.
